How dashboards work

The Dashboard is the first thing a person sees after signing in. It is not one page for everybody: each role has its own, and you design it.

Where the numbers come from

Every widget reads one of your modules: it counts its records, sums a numeric field on them, or lists the latest rows. You never type a number in — the page moves with your data.

Why one per role

The numbers a sales manager cares about are not the accountant's. A role's dashboard opens the system straight onto what concerns that person, instead of a page they have to search.

Hidden widgets

If a widget uses a field the reader's role may not see, the widget appears with a line — "This widget uses a field your role cannot view" — and no number or chart. Permission outranks design.

Designing them

Dashboards are designed on the Dashboard Config page, which needs the "can manage dashboard" capability on your role.
